At WWDC earlier this month, Apple announced the next iteration of its desktop operating system — macOS 10.15 Catalina — with new features, an automatic dark mode, project catalyst, improved and redesigned apps, and more. However, up until now, macOS Catalina was only available as a developer beta to registered developers. Now, finally, Apple has released the public beta for macOS 10.15 so anyone with an Apple ID and a compatible Mac can install it on their system.

macOS Catalina Features

With macOS Catalina, Apple has brought a bunch of really cool and useful features to the Mac. Here are some of the most exciting new features and changes in macOS Catalina:

• Screen Time on Mac: You can now view your Screen Time on your Mac so you can see which apps you spend most of your time on, set App Timers, Downtime, and more to control your Mac usage.
• Sidecar: With a new feature called Sidecar, you can now use your iPad as a secondary display for your Mac — that’s a feature you’d have to use an app like Duet for, on older operating systems, but now it’s built in.
• Automatic Light and Dark Modes: with macOS Catalina, you can choose to enable and disable dark mode on your laptop based on the time of day.
