Home News Tech WhatsApp QR Code Contact Card Makes a Lot of Sense for WhatsApp Payments

WhatsApp is aiming to make it easier for users to quickly share their contact details by introducing a QR code system with a simple scan. The QR code feature is similar to what Facebook brought to Instagram in the form of nametags.

Soon, you can create a QR code in WhatsApp that can be shared with others so that they can add your number to their contacts. You can also share QR codes sent to you by others to anyone else, which is why WhatsApp will implement a security feature to revoke the QR code which makes it invalid. Here are the screenshots shared by WABetaInfo about the feature:

WABetaInfo also said the app is working on an improved “Add Contact” experience with a simple and intuitive UI, that automatically checks if an entered number is already present on WhatsApp. This should alert you to any discrepancies or mistakes in the number. WhatsApp will automatically add a country code when you select the country. Here’s what it looks like currently in the testing phase:

We can see the second feature being useful in some situations, and we can also understand why one would want to create a QR code for their WhatsApp number – it will be very convenient for businesses and with WhatsApp Payments likely to be allowed to operate pan-India by next year, it could also become a way for users to pay each other.

It’ll be interesting to see whether WhatsApp launches these before the wider rollout of WhatsApp Payments or whether the latter will follow these features.
